Hi everybody Hasnain Khan here from we speak business and during this Article, I'm getting to share with you my business conversation pyramid and this is often essentially the system that I give to my students to assist them to have better conversations in English at work and to form chitchat more effectively which I shared this because I do know that tons of individuals tons of business English learners don't really tend to understand what chitchat is why it's vital and why we'd like to find out the way to have a conversation and keep a conversation getting into English.
That's why I assumed it might be a very great idea to share this pyramid this technique with you only to form it an entire lot easier and you'll see here on the wall that we've three main parts of our system or our pyramid and the primary part we've is at the very top here active listening now I'm not getting to enter an excessive amount of depth on what active listening really is but basically active listening is once we are really paying full attention to what the opposite person is saying we'd also ask clarifying inquiries to check for information or to ascertain for details and understanding but active listening is once we are concentrated fully on the speaker or the opposite person and that we try our greatest to intake and that interpret all of that new information that we are receiving.
Therefore the very very first thing that we'd like to try to to
if we would like to be an honest conversationalist is to always be practicing
our active listening skills now after we've listened to the opposite person
speak or after we've listened to their question getting to "> we'll
attend the second part which is to reply or acknowledge their statement or
their question so for instance if they create a press release about the coffee
machine being broken we'd acknowledge that by saying yes i do know it's really
annoying or i could say i do know they said they might fix that last week or if
they ask an issue for instance uh does one miss uh the coffee that we wont to
have within the breakout room i might answer that question by just saying uh
yes absolutely i miss that coffee or no i hated that coffee I'm glad they've
changed brands so it is vital that once we start speaking the first thing we
should always say is we'd like to acknowledge their statement or we'd like to
answer their question.
Because the opposite person is either getting to say something
that we'd like to quite say we've taken it in we've understood or we'd like to
answer their question if they've asked us an issue now after we've done that
the third and final thing we'd like to try to and this is probably the foremost
important a part of this pyramid is we'd like to ask a returning question so if
they assert uh or if they ask us if we are glad that the corporate has changed
coffee brands we'd ask a follow-up question and say what about you or are you
much of a coffee drinker or we could also say did you hear when uh did you hear
what proportion this new coffee brand is so it's really important that the last
item we do is we ask a follow-up question.
And the reason why this is so important is that this is what keeps the conversation going because once we ask the returning question we go right copy to favorite again they begin speaking and that we are practicing our active listening again then getting to |they'll"> they're going to make a press release and we will acknowledge that statement then we will ask a returning question or they're going to ask us an issue we answer that question then we ask a returning question ourselves and really if you follow this technique this pyramid then there's no way that you simply simply simply simply are ever going to be at a loss for words and it's going to eliminate tons of those awkward silences or those awkward moments that you wont to have once you know participating in chitchat with a colleague a client or your boss.
